He has sold over 26 million units in the USA and 50 million copies worldwide. His critically acclaimed album The Blueprint was written in only two days. After announcing his retirement from recording music in 2003, he returned in late 2006. Jay-Z is worth an estimated $547 million, regaining his position as the richest Hip-Hop artist in the world, which was held in 2006 by Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Reasonable Doubt (1996)
Reasonable Doubt is the debut album by Jay-Z. It was released on June 25, 1996 by Roc-A-Fella Records in the United States. The album features production from DJ Premier, Ski and Clark Kent, and guest vocals by Memphis Bleek, Sauce Money and The Notorious B.I.G. It peaked at #23 on the Billboard 200, received platinum status in 2002, and sold 1.4 million copies as of 2006.

In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 (1997)
Jay-Z’s second album, released on November 4, 1997. The album received positive reviews from critics but fans were not embracing Jay-Z’s commercialized new image. The album features a much more pop oriented sound than his debut release Reasonable Doubt and went on to receive a Platinum certification from the RIAA, selling more than 1.2 million copies in the U.S.

Vol. 3 Life and Times of S. Carter (1999)
This is a 1999 release by Jay-Z. It is, for the most part, his return to a more street-oriented sound. However, it did manage to produce some very successful radio-friendly singles. Vol. 3 topped the billboard charts with nearly half a million sold in its first few days of release. To date, the album has sold over 3 million copies, the most successful single from the album and arguably Jay-Z’s career is the now-infamous Big Pimpin’.

The Dynasty: Roc La Familia (2000)
The 5th studio album released by Jay-Z. Originally a Roc-A-Fella Records collaboration album, a showcase for Roc-A-Fella artists such as Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel and Freeway, it eventually became another Jay-Z solo album (or at least marketed as one to increase sales), although the Roc-A-Fella artists are abundant on this album. Big name guest appearances have been limited to three Snoop Dogg, R. Kelly, and Scarface to make room for the Roc-A-Fella family. Its lead single, “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)”, produced by The Neptunes, was one of Jay-Z’s most successful singles peaking at number 11 on the Billboard 200. The album debuted at #1 on the charts with 557,000 copies sold in its first week and more than 2.3 million copies sold to date.

Jay-Z’s sixth solo album. Its release date was changed from September 18, 2001 to September 11 to combat bootlegging. Despite being overshadowed by the September 11, 2001 attacks, the album sold over 426,000 copies in its opening week, becoming Jay-Z’s fourth consecutive album to reach number one on the Billboard 200. It was certified two times platinum as sales stand at over two million units in the U.S.

The Black Album (2003)
The Black Album was promoted as his final studio album, although Jay-Z subsequently announced a return to solo recording in 2006. The album was very well received by critics and was also a commercial success, debuting at #1 with about 463,000 sold in its first week and more than 3.5 million to date. The album features a guest appearance by Pharrell Williams (in “Change Clothes”), and Jay-Z’s mother, who speaks about his childhood in different portions of “December 4th”.
